- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 02 Jul, 2026 at 05:30 pm – Thu, 02 Jul, 2026 at 06:30 pm
- **Event Description**: A Tasmanian Aboriginal-led palawa kani map to launch in the lead up to NAIDOC Week 2026; a two-year collaboration bringing language, Country, and illustration together.

This new printed map of palawa kani place names across Lutruwita / Tasmania, created by Nunami Sculthorpe-Green and illustrated by Joshua Santospirito, will officially launch in the lead up to NAIDOC Week 2026 at Fullers Bookshop.

Titled ‘Tunapri Lutruwita – True Names for Country’, the map is a 100% Tasmanian Aboriginal-owned project that centres palawa kani, the language of Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

The work brings together language, illustration, and cultural practice into a resource designed to support learning and deeper engagement with Country.

The release marks a continuation of Sculthorpe-Green’s work across writing, art, and Blak-led tourism, extending her work in public education and cultural practice into a tangible resource grounded in Country and language.

Illustrator Joshua Santospirito, known for his graphic novels, has hand-drawn the landscape that features illustrated depictions of flora, fauna, and natural features specific to Lutruwita. The visual storytelling reinforces the relationship between language, people, and Country

Tunapri Lutruwita does not translate palawa kani into English. Instead, it invites audiences to encounter place names on their own terms. Hopefully encouraging a decolonised understanding of Country.

Originally initiated in 2023, the project had its first iteration as a public exhibition at Moonah Arts Centre, where an interactive version of the map invited community members to fill in the palawa kani place names as part of a language lesson. This community-centred approach continues to underpin the final release.

In recognition of the ongoing work of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre in reviving and maintaining palawa kani, five percent of all profits from the map will be donated to the organisation’s campaign fund. The project also directs audiences to the Centre’s digital language resources for pronunciation guidance and appropriate language use. All language has been shared in accordance with the palawa kani language use policy.
