From Gumnuts to Buttons
A journey through Tasmanian Aboriginal History
weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation, in partnership with the City of Hobart, invite you to join us for Gumnuts to Buttons during National Reconciliation Week 2018.
In keeping with the Reconciliation Week theme: Don’t Keep History a Mystery, Gumnuts to Buttons will bring Tasmanian Aboriginal history into the spotlight with a 2 hour interactive simulation of Tasmanian Aboriginal History. The activity is designed to build understanding of important events in the history of Tasmania and the impact of these on the social, political and economic situation for Tasmanian Aboriginal people today.
Participants are invited to join the facilitators through historic facts from an Aboriginal perspective which challenge some of the European perspectives from this time.
Originally designed for the Education Department for use in primary schools, this activity is relevant and accessible for anyone wanting to expand their understanding of Tasmania’s history, and to engage with the story of Tasmanian Aboriginal People. Gumnuts to Buttons will be facilitated by Auntie Debra Hocking, a member of the weetapoona Aborignal Corporation.
