Green Drinks is a monthly, informal gathering of people working on environmental and sustainability issues or interested in learning more. We have a lively mixture of people from various fields and sectors. It's a way to catch up with people we know, make new contacts, have fun, and build community. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organising network.
The events are simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities.

TOPIC: Farmed Fish Welfare: Helping the most neglected animals
GUEST: Ameer Virani, Founder and Co-director, Scale Welfare
Ameer worked in sustainable tourism development for 10 years before leaving the tourism world behind last year to seek a higher-impact career built on the principles of effective altruism. This year, he co-founded Scale Welfare, a charity working to improve the welfare of farmed fish in the Philippines and Vietnam.
He will talk us through his career transition, how impact has been central to it and the work his charity is now doing to try to improve farmed fish welfare.
