Title: Nyungnay Fasting Retreat *
Location: Amoghasiddhi Kadampa Buddhist Centre
Date: Friday 10th & Sunday 12th April
Schedule: please see below
About the Retreat:
The Nyungne practice helps us to purify our mind by making prostrations while reciting prayers to Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. This special fasting retreat is very powerful for purifying negative karma and for pacifying strong delusions. It is also a special method for receiving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion, and bodhichitta.
Fasting is generally seen as a longstanding and effective method to improve physical and mental wellbeing.
Each morning we begin by taking Mahayana Precepts, where we promise to keep pure moral discipline for 24 hours. To purify negative actions committed out of attachment, we limit our worldly pleasures by eating only one simple meal at lunch (and fasting completely on the second day (if we are able) and engaging only in spiritual activities. *
