- **Event Description**: Occoneechee Speedway is an old NASCAR track that was ran from 1948-1969.  It has since been preserved as a state park and is set in what I consider to be some of the most beautiful woodland country I've encountered.  The whole area inspired awe from parking area on out.

Several buildings, bleachers, flag stand, and the race car in the picture are still out there.  The one mile oval track is walkable and there's single track walking trails by the Eno Rriver which are very pretty.  The race track links to the Mountains to Sea trail so there's opportunity for some serious hiking for anyone who's hardcore.

We'll meet at the parking area at 2pm and start the hike around 2:15.  The trail leading back is a well kept dirt road so it's good for strollers / wheelchairs, very little roots, even on the single track.  I'm guessing 1.5 miles out and back.  

After we make it to the bleachers, feel free to hang out / explore / do your own thing.  No real set time to stay or leave.
