Friday, July 18th - Creatures of the Night Forest: Squirrels and Mushrooms
5:00 PM - Dinner
5:45 PM - 'Creatures of the Night Forest' Presentation. Dr. Merri Collins of Appalachian Headwaters will give an educational talk about flying squirrels.
6:45 - 'UV Fungus' Presentation. Pat Mitchell, President of the Blue Ridge Mycological Society, will talk about Fluorescing Fungi.
At Dusk - We'll leave for a walk at dusk to look for flying squirrels and fluorescing fungi.

Saturday, July 19th - Mushroom Foray at The Yew Mountain Center
Light Breakfast
10:00 AM - Mushroom Cultivation
12:00 PM - Lunch
1:00 PM - Mushroom Foray. We will journey into the forest for a mushroom foray with expert guides Pat Mitchell, and Kyle Rooke of the West Virginia Mushroom Club.
4:00 - Mushroom ID, Table Talk Session, and Tasting. Following the foray, we identify, categorize, discuss, and perhaps sample our finds back at the lodge. Mycol Stevens will present the wild tasting session.
5:30 - Dinner
6:30 - A Shadow Puppet Operetta by the Sympohic Spores.
7:30 - Campfire. Instruments welcome.

Sunday, July 20th - Guided Mushroom Walk
9 AM - 'Micro Myco Meander' guided walk with Pat and Kyle. The weekend will conclude with a guided walk to explore the world of tiny fungi. We will then examine our finds with dissecting microscopes, stereoscopes, and handheld microscopes.

Where will you be?
You will be joining us at the Yew Mountain Center, a 500-acre Botanical Sanctuary and educational center. Our mission is to provide programs that explore Appalachian ecology, culture, and the arts while promoting personal and community wellness. We are the home of the West Virginia Forest Farming Initiative and a stop on the Mountain Medicine Trail.

What else is good to know?
Many of these sessions involve walking on forest trails. Please let us know in advance how we can make this event accessible for you. We are happy to accommodate! This is a family-friendly event. Please leave pets at home for this event. Service animals are welcome.

COST: The Yew Mountain Center works to make learning opportunities accessible for all, regardless of ability to pay. The true cost of this event is at least $100 per person, but because of grants and donations, we can offer it to participants for less. 

We offer you a "pick your price" menu to help sustain our initiative. 
$125 Support our scholarship fund.
$100 Pay the true cost. 
$75 Support our essentials. 
$25 Apply for a scholarship. (Cost will be refunded if scholarships are not available)

Children under 5 are free. Children 6-14 are $25 each. 
Donate upon arrival.

What's included in registration?
The fees include instruction Fri-Sun, Friday dinner, Saturday light breakfast, Saturday lunch, Saturday Dinner, Sunday Light Breakfast, plus camping Friday and Saturday. 

Scholarships are available for people who need financial assistance to attend the Mountain Medicine Weekend. If you are interested in a scholarship, please send a scholarship request to info@wvforestfarming.org.
