See the night world aglow on a walk in the dark with UV flashlights; play mushroom bingo; introduce kids to the fun of fungus with Myrtle, the mushroom ambassador turtle; head out into the forest for a foray. Learn identification of edible mushrooms plus how to cook and enjoy them. Explore the micro myco world up close with microscopes. And...more! This is the ultimate hands-on, multi-sensory, arts-infused learning adventure. Whether you're a seasoned forager or a curious newcomer, this event offers something for everyone.​ This is a family-friendly event. ​Please leave your pets at home. Where will you be? The Yew Mountain Center is a 500-acre Botanical Sanctuary and educational center. Our mission is to provide programs that explore Appalachian ecology, culture, and the arts while promoting personal and community wellness. We are the home of the West Virginia Forest Farming Initiative and a stop on the Mountain Medicine Trail. What else is good to know? Many of these sessions involve walking on forest trails. Please let us know in advance how we can make this event accessible for you. We are happy to accommodate! This is a family-friendly event. Please leave pets at home for this event. Service animals are welcome. You may choose to sample edible mushrooms at your own risk. Individuals may react differently to wild foods. COST: The Yew Mountain Center works to make learning opportunities accessible for all, regardless of ability to pay. The true cost of this event is at least $125 per person, but because of grants and donations, we can offer it to participants for less. We offer you a "pick your price" menu to help sustain our initiative. In addition to admission to the sessions, these prices include dinner Friday and Saturday, continental breakfasts Saturday and Sunday, lunch Saturday, and leftover lunch Sunday. Camping is also included in the price. Lodging in our guest rooms and bunkhouse is an additional cost--call us for availability. $300 Support our scholarship fund. $200 Pay the true cost. $150 Support our essentials. $60 Apply for a scholarship.
