A free community gathering to learn about our headwaters, share stories, and help shape a shared vision for protecting and restoring the Eastern Slopes. All are welcome.
Join us in High River for the Eastern Slopes Watershed Assembly, part of a series of community gatherings taking place across Alberta’s Eastern Slopes.
Together, we will explore the headwaters that feed the Highwood River and discuss what’s working, what’s not, and what future watershed protection could look like.
This assembly is open to everyone and designed to uplift community voices, not deliver a top-down presentation.
⸻
Why High River? Why Now?
High River sits downstream of the Eastern Slopes. What happens in the headwaters — from clearcutting and coal exploration to road building, drought, and restoration projects — flows directly into this community.
These changes affect:
• Flood and drought risk
• Drinking water security
• Fish and wildlife
• Local agriculture
• Overall watershed health
Communities along the Eastern Slopes are coming together to better understand these impacts and shape a shared vision for the future. This is High River’s chance to contribute.
⸻
What to Expect
This will be a hands-on, participatory, and welcoming event. No expertise required.

• Short presentation: Why Water, Why the Eastern Slopes
• Interactive table exercise on water stewardship
• Future visioning activity to explore what’s possible
• Community discussion

• Closing & next steps
Snacks, coffee, tea, and space for casual conversation are available before and after the main program.

How Your Input Will Be Used
This assembly is Phase 1 of a larger effort to gather public insight across the Eastern Slopes.
Your input will help:

• Inform future policy conversations, in collaboration with watershed groups, Indigenous leaders, and scientists
Later in 2026, we will return to communities with draft proposals for feedback and refinement.
