The 24 Hours of Zolder is by far the most important race weekend for the Belcar Endurance Championship, the longest running race series in Belgium. 40,000 visitors ensure a 'full house' and an unseen atmosphere, with big names and lots of (nightly) entertainment on and next to the tarmac. In this atmosphere, drivers and machines of the Belcar Endurance Championship go to the limit. The technical and winding circuit of Zolder always guarantees a real battle of attrition between GTs and touring cars, divided over five classes. Last year Dylan Derdaele and Jan Laureyssen of Belgium Racing raced their way to the top of the general classification in their Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. “The entry-level class Club Challenge (Toerisme C) with a very low threshold, introduced last year, is particularly popular. With this, we make racing accessible again for the better and especially driven amateurs,” says general manager Harry Steegmans.
Everything is given extra color with the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup, a short blast sprint over 30 minutes that guarantees overtaking manoeuvres by the participating Tourisme and GT cars “That is also a huge success. The places are almost sold out. Gone is gone. Amateur pilots participate in different classes based on their best time. You can participate in a Peugeot 206, Suzuki Swift, via Honda Civic, MX5 to BMW M3,” says Harry Steegmans.
Once again proof that the Belcar, with continuous innovation, is the beating heart of Belgian motorsport, where racing talents make their debut and drivers drive themselves to eternal fame. The warm-up starts on August 28 with the Petrolhead Afterwork who complete 2 sessions of 60 minutes and throw an afterparty during the night training of the Belcar drivers.
