On Mothering Sunday, we invite you to join us at Reculver Towers for a special service marking the original meaning of Mothering Sunday.

Long before it became associated with Mother’s Day, Mothering Sunday was a time when people returned to their mother church, the principal church of their parish to worship together and reconnect with their community. For centuries, Reculver served as the mother church for a wide historic parish and the surrounding area of the Hundred of Bleangate.

On Mothering Sunday, 15th March 2026, at 2.00pm, we will be holding a simple, reflective service at the Reculver Towers. We warmly welcome residents, those with historic connections to the parish and neighbouring communities, and anyone who would like to attend.

This will be a moment to reflect on:
Home and belonging
Family, past and present
Community roots and shared history

The service will take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather. All are welcome.
