Natives, vegetables, and fruit trees all have different nutritional and microbiological requirements.
This workshop is your chance to understand the requirements of the plants you are trying to grow, and how you can meet those requirements through different composting methods.
During this hands-on morning at Vrinda Valley Community Garden, you’ll walk through the ins and outs of hot method composting, before learning how to construct and manage a Johnson Su bioreactor.
With expert facilitation from Christel Mathelot of Wild Gaia Plants, this workshop will offer something for everyone regardless of property size, goals, knowledge level, or resources!
What you'll learn:
-What makes plants healthy
-Tools you can use to determine plant health
-The soil food web communities that contribute to plant health
-Plant succession from bare soil to trees
-How to tailor your compost for your specific plants
-How to test the pH of the compost
-What compost method is achievable given your access to resources and land.
