Triathlon in WNC is back — and this time, it begins at Kanuga.
Registration opens February 19, 2026.
We’re proud to introduce the inaugural Kanuga Triathlon, a brand-new event set in the beautiful mountain setting of Kanuga in Hendersonville. Designed to be approachable, scenic, and just the right amount of challenge, this race welcomes both first-timers and experienced athletes looking for something different and for a triathlon in Western North Carolina.
Race Distances
• 600 meter open water swim (time trial start, seeded by self-reported swim pace)
• 13.5 miles Rolling bike course featuring two approx. 1-mile sections of packed dirt/gravel service road
• 5K (3.1 miles) run on a mix of single-track trail, double-track trail, forest road, and paved roads
Bike Course:
This is not your traditional aero-only triathlon course. It’s best suited for:
• Road bikes with wider tires
• Gravel bikes
• Cyclocross bikes
• Mountain bikes
This is a mostly road bike course (85%). The two 'off-road' sections are packed dirt/gravel service road (not technical trail), but riders should come prepared.
An e-bike division will be offered and scored separately.
Turn It Into a Weekend
While Sunday is all about the triathlon, the weekend starts Saturday evening with the Inaugural Twilight Trail 5K.
Do both events and earn a special RUN WNC towel for completing the full weekend challenge.
Think sunset trail running, a relaxed bonfire vibe Saturday night, staying on property, food options on site, and then lining up Sunday morning ready to race.
Whether you’re planning a staycation or coming in from out of town, Kanuga makes it easy to show up, settle in, and enjoy a truly fun August weekend in WNC.
