About This Lantern Walk

We are two moms from Germany who grew up with lantern walks as one of the most meaningful traditions of childhood. Every year, German families gather after dark, children carrying handmade lanterns, walking together to bring light into the winter months.

Now that we’re raising our own kids here in Hendersonville, we want to share this tradition with the community. Not as a big event; just a warm, peaceful gathering that builds family culture and brings people together in a season that often feels quiet and cold.


Why Here? Why Now?

Memorial Park is woven into Hendersonville’s identity: the water, the geese, the bridge, the way families naturally gather there. The geese on the city’s emblem even mirror the goose-shaped pastries carried in lantern walks across Bavaria.
And with Hendersonville’s Japanese sister city hosting its own lantern festival each fall, this walk becomes a beautiful blend of cultures:
German roots, Japanese tradition, Tennessee community.


What to Bring

Bring a handmade lantern: simple or elaborate, German-style, Japanese-inspired, or completely your own design.
LED candles only (no flames).
Kids creating their lanterns at home is part of the magic.
