We invite you to join us for our annual Black History Month celebration. This special community gathering will honor the legacy, leadership, and service of local Black basketball champions who have made an impact both on and off the court.

These leaders not only achieved success in athletics, but also gave back to others, mentored future generations, and lived out YMCA values through service and leadership in Henderson County.

During this Black History Month event, we will take time to reflect on, honor, and celebrate the meaningful difference these leaders have made in our community.

We’re especially excited to welcome local voices and basketball greats like Tippy Creswell and Kevin Young, and many others who will share stories, memories, and powerful reflections on how the game builds connection, character, and community.

 Our keynote speakers are Henderson County natives who have been influential in advancing opportunities for others.

Event Details:

When: Friday, February 27, 2026 | 12–2 p.m.
Where: Hendersonville Family YMCA basketball gymnasium 

This is a FREE event and open to all, featuring delicious food tastings from Carolina Ace BBQ and generously sponsored by Stuller Power Solutions.

Registration is not required, but we do ask that if you plan to attend, please let us know by emailing RSVP@ymcawnc.org.

Also, we will have a special showing on "Tin Can Man", a documentary recounting Hendersonville High School's dramatic march to the 1972 state 3A basketball championship at 2:30 p.m., following the event. 

Come celebrate the champions who helped shape our town—and the game that was born at a YMCA, and continues to bring us together. We can’t wait to see you there for an afternoon of connection, inspiration, and hometown pride.
