Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3:00 p.m. in Stillwell Hall

????? ?????? ??? ????? recently won Best Human Rights and Dignity Film at the Tryon International Film Festival. This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the desegregation of schools in Henderson County. The film focuses on this history and more. Integration brought black students access to up-to-date books and facilities, but it came at a tremendous cost – the loss of identity and heritage. Black community schools, including 9th Avenue School, which served students in three counties, Henderson, Transylvania, and Polk, were shuttered. Joining us will be Ronnie Pepper and Melinda Lowrance, alumni of Hendersonville’s 9th Avenue School, and the Executive Director of the Henderson County Education Foundation. We will be accepting donations for the Education Foundation’s Grow Our Own Scholarship Fund the purpose of which is to recruit former and current students and HCPS staff to build a diverse education workforce.

If you wish to make a contribution, mail or bring in a check payable to St. James with “Grow Our Own Scholarship” in the memo line or give online by choosing Grow Our Own Scholarship from the drop-down menu. https://bit.ly/StJamesGive
