Neighborhood Health Series: Cholesterol, Good, Bad or Bunk?

Presented by Arup Chakraborty, PhD, Associate Professor of Ph*rm*cy, College of Ph*rm*cy, Roseman University of Health Sciences
Cholesterol—so misunderstood. Ninety-nine million Americans have high cholesterol, and most of what we think about cholesterol is probably wrong. Our body requires cholesterol for proper structure and function. The vast majority of cholesterol in the body does not come directly from foods like eggs and meat, but is produced by the liver, which can make cholesterol out of anything we eat. Is it the villain it's portrayed to be? Is cholesterol putting us at a dangerously high risk of heart attack? The answer for most people is, NO. It is important to know the truth about the role of cholesterol, treatment strategies and recent advancement of our knowledge to put some myths to bed. Meet Dr. Arup Chakraborty, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and presenter extraordinaire, as he reassures us that not we should fall prey to scare tactics about cholesterol.
