Virtuoosimainen flow, terävät lyriikat ja energinen lavaesiintyminen ovat vieneet artistin loppuunmyydyiltä keikoilta ympäri maailman suurille festivaaleille aina Coachellasta Lollapaloozaan. 

J.I.D nousi yleisön tietoisuuteen vuonna 2015 julkaistulla DiCaprio-EP:llä, ja solmi pian sopimuksen Dreamville/Interscope Recordsin kanssa J. Colen löydettyä hänet. Hän julkaisi debyyttialbuminsa The Never Story (2017), jota seurasi kriitikoiden ylistämä DiCaprio 2 (2018). Tämän jälkeen hän osallistui Dreamvillen platinaa myyneeseen kokoelmaan Revenge of the Dreamers III, sai useita Grammy-ehdokkuuksia sekä maininnan XXL Freshman -listalla.

Vuonna 2022 julkaistu The Forever Story sai laajaa tunnustusta, ja sen single Surround Sound nousi viraalihitiksi TikTokissa, myi kolminkertaista platinaa ja nähtiin myös Billboardin Hot 100 -listalla.

Viimeisimpänä J.I.D julkaisi neljännen studioalbuminsa God Does Like Ugly 8. elokuuta 2025. Albumi sisältää yhteistyötä mm. Clipsen, Ty Dolla $ignin, Ciaran, Vince Staplesin, 6lackin ja Don Toliverin kanssa.
