Learning theory is the cornerstone of dog training, but it’s often misunderstood or oversimplified in traditional education. In this session, Chirag Patel will revisit the principles of operant conditioning and behaviour analysis, shining a light on their complexities and nuances.
This presentation challenges common misconceptions and explores how learning theory intersects with real-world training practices. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to apply these foundational concepts to better shape behaviour, improve outcomes, and avoid pitfalls in their training journey.

RETHINKING COMMON SENSE DOG TRAINING: CHALLENGING COMMON WISDOMS IN THE FIELD

In Rethinking Common Sense Dog Training, Chirag Patel invites dog trainers and behaviour consultants to critically examine common practices and beliefs in the field. This session will challenge widely accepted ‘truths’ in dog training and behaviour, encouraging participants to think critically and question the status quo.
By analysing popular training methods and coaching strategies, Chirag will highlight the importance of evidence-based practices and encourage a culture of continuous learning and critical thinking. Participants will leave with a renewed perspective on their practice and the tools to question and refine their approach to dog training.

PRACTICAL PROBLEM SOLVING: FROM REACTIVITY, AGGRESSION TO PUPPY BEHAVIOURS AND SEPARATION ANXIETY 

Want to see how the details of how Chirag works with real life cases focusing on the important details that can make a huge difference? Using video examples Chirag will present real life cases to show detailed training and behaviour work highlighting the moment to moment interactions and decisions. This will allow you to take away many practical idea to use right away and ask questions to understand these better.  

BODY LANGUAGE BEYOND THE LIP LICK: IS IT TIME TO THROW AWAY THE BATH WATER AND CHANGE THE BABY?:

This presentation examines the concept of ‘body language’ in dogs from a behaviour-analytic perspective, challenging traditional interpretations and exploring whether the construct serves a functional purpose.
We will critically assess outdated beliefs (the bath water) and identify core principles (the baby) that truly matter.
Join me for an in-depth critical analysis of what we often consider a critical part
of our work, understanding body language.�
