About the event

Warbler Walk
Did you know EVERY Golden-cheeked Warbler is a Native Texan? Learn about these federally-listed endangered songbirds who come to Government Canyon every spring to build their nests and start their families here in the Texas Hill Country.

Join a park ranger to (hopefully*) experience these amazing birds in person. If possible, bring a pair of binoculars, but we will have loaners on hand.

*Note that we will scout locations in advance but can't guarantee everyone will see a golden-cheeked warbler!

Who is invited:

This hike is limited to the first 12 people to check in with the ranger, so plan to arrive on time. Ages 10 and up. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at TGlzYSAhIENvbGUgfCB0cHdkICEgdGV4YXMgISBnb3Y= to schedule at a different time.

Where to meet:

Meet near the Rainwater Towers at the Visitor Center. Lots A & B are the closest parking. The hike will leave promptly at 7:30 am, so please plan to arrive a little early. GCSNA opens at 7 am.

Accessibility:

This hike may include some elevation gain and loss over rough, rocky topography. We'll hike around 3.5 miles.

If ADA assistance is required, please request modifications byor emailing YWNjZXNzaWJpbGl0eSB8IHRwd2QgISB0ZXhhcyAhIGdvdg== at least 2 weeks in advance.

How to prepare:

Dress for hiking outdoors. Wear layers that can be taken on or off as the day's weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.

Registration is NOT required for this hike. Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 12 participants to check-in with the hike leader.

Cancellation:

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
