Street photography is a way for Pagter’s to observe the world around him, and the encounters in the streets allows him to meet and engage in conversations with the people he photographs. Pagter makes street photography for fun and without any obligations and it makes it possible for him to hang on to his joy of photography. Most of Pagter’s pictures from the streets have never been published or exhibitied, but this year he spends time going through his negatives and raw-files in order to create a selection of his images. The talk at Photopia will take the audience through Pagter’s work from two trips to Poland in the late 80’ies. He will talk about how he works as a street photographer, and he will take the audience into his selection process and show how he has created a book dummy from the material. About Søren Pagter: Pagter has since 1998 taught Danish and international photojournalists at the world famous photojournalism education at DMJX in Aarhus. He has conducted photographic workshops around the world, for instance in Bolivia, Nepal, Russia, Egypt, Armenia and Iran. In his teaching, Pagter focusses on the visual language as a tool to communicate important subject matters to the people. His aim is that the photojournalism must reach the audience to make them react, understand and feel.
