- **Event Description**: Forest Service cabins and lookouts are beloved by Montanans, but we all know they don’t get the care they need. Wild Montana’s Wild Divide chapter is looking to change that. 

On Sunday, August 23rd, we are headed to Eagle Guard Station on the southeast flank of the Elkhorn Mountains. This cabin was built in 1895 by a miner and was taken over by the Forest Service in 1908. It is the oldest administrative log structure in Helena National Forest. Eagle Guard Station is prized for its wildlife viewing, idyllic grassland setting, and proximity to popular hiking trails.

If you’d like to pitch in to help maintain our public land’s cabin rental system, this is your opportunity! We’ll tackle whatever tasks are needed and take note of future projects to build a to-do list for anything we don’t have the opportunity to finish. All tools and equipment are provided. 

We’ll be able to drive right up to the cabin, so no hiking is involved. We will have the option to stay in the cabin Sunday night, and finish work on Monday morning. All personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies are provided.
