Incarcerating Eve by Mandala Theatre Company

Join us for Incarcerating Eve by Mandala Theatre Company on Monday, 16 March 2026, at 16:45, at Clerici G.03 SKW Hall in Clerici Building, Oxford Brookes University. Through 2000 years of patriarchy, women have faced imprisonment, torture, and execution. Systems have locked women away for witchcraft, hysteria, or the perceived impurity of childbirth. Today, women’s freedoms in body, mind, and spirit face a disturbing global retreat. From the rollback of reproductive rights to the rise of domestic abuse and forced child marriage, the need to challenge these trends is urgent.

Incarcerating Eve exposes the narratives used by organised religion and politics to suppress women. The play unearths Herstory, revealing ancient wisdom where feminine and masculine energies existed in balance. By connecting these origins to modern stories, the performance asks what must change to build a world rooted in love and kindness rather than violence.

Mandala Theatre Company is an ethnically diverse-led company based in East Oxford. They use performance as a powerful tool for social justice and youth empowerment, creating platforms for voices from the global majority and disadvantaged backgrounds. This latest production, Incarcerating Eve, was co-created with student and women's groups in Oxford, Luton, Salford, and Bristol. By working with those with lived experience, Mandala continues its mission to tell the stories that often go untold.
