For decades, Georgine Postupack-Borchick of McAdoo, Pennsylvania, has been a cherished figure in preserving and teaching the ancient Ukrainian art of pysanky—intricately decorated Easter eggs created with a traditional wax-resist method. Known for her patience, generosity, and deep knowledge of cultural symbolism, Georgine has led classes for students of all ages, helping them learn the delicate process of applying beeswax and layering dyes to create vibrant folk designs. Whether at community centers, historical societies, schools, or arts venues, her workshops are lively, hands-on experiences that demystify this complex craft and invite everyone to explore their creativity.
Her dedication to pysanky extends beyond instruction. Georgine’s own creations are crafted with meticulous care, often incorporating many color layers and meaningful motifs passed down through generations. Her work has gained national recognition—twelve of her pysanky eggs are displayed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., a rare honor that highlights both her artistic excellence and the cultural importance of this folk art.
Through her teaching and artistry, Georgine Postupack-Borchick keeps alive a tradition that connects communities to history, heritage, and the simple joy of transforming a humble egg into a work of art.
