After a much-missed absence, one of the Bluebell Railway’s most popular and atmospheric events returns in 2026.
Join us as Road Meets Rail once again comes to life at Horsted Keynes station, bringing together road steam and rail steam for a truly unforgettable weekend.
For many visitors, this event has been a firm favourite, and we are delighted to welcome it back to the railway. Horsted Keynes will be transformed into a bustling Edwardian scene, filled with the sights, sounds and smells of steam power at work, recreating the everyday activity of a bygone age in remarkable detail.
An impressive array of traction engines, road rollers, steam wagons, showman’s engines, crane engines and other road steam vehicles will be on display and in action throughout the weekend. Watch demonstrations of road building, wood sawing, timber haulage and heavy lifting, showcasing how essential tasks were carried out in the early 1900s using steam power alone.
Road Meets Rail is a celebration of working steam in all its forms — not just something to be admired, but something to be seen, heard and experienced. Its return is something many have been looking forward to, and we are thrilled to welcome back this much-loved event for a weekend of discovery, nostalgia and family-friendly fun.
