Duration: All day walk (Note: For those planning to come to the Hayling Island walk on 7 December, please note that the meeting place is now the Nature Reserve car park for the Oyster Beds, Postcode PO11 0LG, or in Victoria Road which is the road opposite the car park as it does get very busy, and is still quite small. There should however be a burger van selling food and hot drinks in the car park on the day from 8-4. Start time 9.30am. High tide is 12.30 midday.
If you need a toilet stop then the Applegreen petrol station on the left as you go over the bridge onto the island has facilities.
We will aim to explore the Oyster Beds first and then walk over the bridge to Langstone Harbour towards Warblington. The Billy Line path is now a much more even surface since being upgraded!
We have had to make these changes as the car park at the Ship Inn has been bought by the pub and is for their customers only and they have £100 fines for infringements.
Leader: Geoff Keen
Directions: Turn off A27 onto Langstone Road
To reiterate: Turn right after 300 yards by the second petrol station signed Nature Reserve (brown sign) to small car park near oysterbeds. Alternatively turn left directly opposite this car park and find a space by the houses if the Nature Reserve car park is busy.
Habitat: Firm paths at both sites, but can be muddy if wet. Expanses of mud in estuary, views of the sea in Langstone Harbour, oysterbeds with lagoons. Mill pond and open fields, woodland and scrub.
Attractions: Winter wader flocks at high tide roost, sea ducks, grebes, geese and gulls, egret roost.
Amenities: No facilities at Oysterbeds but there are public toilets on the road outside the Ship Inn (see above).
