The Barrons
The Barrons began as a solo project by founder Robert Byrnes, who composed and recorded the album Surrender by himself but decided to name the album’s artist as The Barrons, after his ancestral Irish family name. Before being sent for mastering, Robert recruited drummer Leo Mancuso to replace the original drum machine tracks with real drumming. ‘Surrender’ was then mastered by former & renowned Sigma Sound engineer, Peter Humphreys.
The Barrons are now a two generation band:
Guitarist-vocalist Robert Byrnes and keyboardist-vocalist Mark McLaughlin had played together in the 80’s band Press, who were very active in Philadelphia’s original band scene. Press’ 1986 single, Child’s Play gained modest airplay on FM 93.3 WMMR and they also performed the single live on WPHL TV’s Dancin’ On Air.
Drummer Leo Mancuso had also been performing within the Philadelphia area during the 80s, in both cover and original bands, including the bands The End and The Outsiders.
Bassist Jason McLaughlin is Mark’s son, who performed in several cover bands in the early 2000's, followed by playing in the Philadelphia indie rock group, This Radiant Boy.
Vocalist-guitarist Erin Curley is Robert’s daughter, developed her music and singing skills in musical theatre troupes, attaining her bachelors degree in music and onto professional theatre work after college.
