Progressive Acoustics and the Kelly Center are honored to present Jerron Paxton and Dennis Lichtman in concert. World-renowned multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, the duo shares a deep reverence for the history and storytelling behind their craft. Their performances are an energetic journey through acoustic blues, ragtime, Tin Pan Alley, 1920s jazz, and twin-fiddle hoe-downs, interspersed with original compositions.

The duo served as artists-in-residence at Symphony Space in New York City for the 2024-25 season and recently released their self-titled debut album. Paxton is a Smithsonian Folkways recording artist and former artistic director of the Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival. Lichtman, a master of the clarinet, mandolin, and fiddle, boasts credits ranging from David Byrne and Pokey LaFarge to HBO’s Succession.

Jerron and Dennis will be giving workshops at 4PM before the concert.

Jerron Paxton Workshop - This banjo workshop will focus on late 19th and early 20th century banjo music that was written for the modern five-string banjo. This music shaped the influences for music like ragtime and early jazz. We will work on getting the fingers comfortable with what should be new techniques and new chords to most, but which were a standard part of banjo music-making in that era.  Tickets and more info:

Dennis Lichtman's Workshop - Though not commonly considered a "jazz instrument," legendary musicians such as Tiny Moore, Jethro Burns, Johnny Gimble, and countless jug band players have proven that the mandolin can swing as hard as anything. In this workshop, we'll take a hands-on approach to techniques for developing a strong swing feel in both lead and rhythm playing, using common swing & hot jazz standards as a framework. https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/kellycenter/03012026-1911824918
