DIFFICULTY: Easy- Moderate: this 3.5 mile roundtrip to the Hauula Pillboxes is an out and back trail, well maintained, mostly shaded, KID and DOG ? FRIENDLY Hike (must be leashed). Anyone of any hiking ? abilities can complete this trail at your own pace. We will have multiple guides, a sweeper at the back and you will have a guide to help lead you back out once we’ve reached our destination. ****For those that want an extra challenge after the Hauula Pillboxes we will continue and complete the Kaipapa’u-Koloa Loop (6miles roundtrip total) and walk back to our starting point. Bring enough food and water*** PERMIT: This trail is on private land and can be accessed by permit, which is free, online, and provides instant access. Please fill out before the hike, choose Koloa Gulch Trail (Hauula Pillbox is part of the Koloa-Kaipapa’u Loop). https://www.hrihelp.com/hiking-camping TIME: 3-4hrs Total including breaks depending on your pace. DISTANCE: 3.5 miles round trip from parking lot to Hauula Pillboxes. ELEVATION GAIN: 1,017ft (highest peak is 700ft) WHERE: Hauula Shopping Center 54-316 Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula HI 96717 Linkup time: 8:45 AM Start Time: 9 AM PARKING: ?️ There is plenty of parking at the Hauula Shopping Center meet at the corner close to Tamura’s closest to the entrance of the parking lot. CARPOOLING is still encouraged. DETAILS: Easy- The first half mile we will be walking through the neighborhood at the end of Kawaipuna St. to the trailhead. The next half mile will be a paved access road before it turns to a shaded trail. Short and moderate incline to the exposed ridge which opens up to sweeping views and huge grove of Strawberry guava trees along the trail, bring a bag to pick it on your way out or enjoy as a sweet treat! From the ridge it’s a short .75 miles to the pillboxes and we will have a wonderful backdrop to stop, enjoy the views, enjoy snacks/food, talk story. Once done feel free to enjoy the North Shore beaches, Kokololio Beach Park is closeby to cool off in. PAYOFF: Sweeping views of North Shore, Kahuku windmills, Laie, Hauula, and Kaaawa Mountains and beach views. ***KID & DOG ?
