In partnership with the Louisiana Fire & Emergency Training Academy, this Driver/Operator Pumper & Aerial course is designed to be delivered as a “traditional” course, with most of the class taking place at the Haughton Fire Dept. while some of the course materials will be presented in our virtual classroom. Because of this, the attending student must possess a laptop or tablet capable of accessing the internet. Online quizzes must be completed each week. ONE week prior to the start of the course, an access code will be emailed to each registered student. You can use these codes to access the virtual classroom, supplied eBook, and other course materials/assignments for each module on Google Classroom. Though we will be providing an eBook for your class, it is highly recommended that you purchase or otherwise obtain a hard copy of the textbook. 

This course meets or exceeds the requirements of the current edition of NFPA 1002, Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications, and NFPA 1500, Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program. Utilizing an easy-to-follow format, the participants will learn topics such as: preventive maintenance, driver training, accelerating /decelerating, braking reaction time, legal aspects, various systems of pumping apparatus, transfer valve, pressure control devices, primers and drafting principals, fire streams and hydraulic calculations, and water supply and private protection systems. Additionally, students will learn to operate an apparatus equipped with a permanently mounted aerial device and all systems associated with the apparatus and device, safely operate the apparatus over streets and highways, set up, stabilize an aerial device for operations at an emergency to provide rescue, ventilation and egress for victims and firefighters, and operate an elevated water delivery system.

A hard copy of the textbook IS NOT included in the cost of this course.

Certification: Though Haughton Fire will be hosting a certification exam at the conclusion of this course, it will be the responsibility of the registering department to submit a test request form for their participating members, utilizing ACADIS. Additionally, practical skill evaluations will be done at the end of the class at the Haughton Fire Dept.


Needed Materials: Computer or mobile device, secure internet connection, web browser, Google account, helmet, and gloves.

Payment: This class is being presented in partnership with the Louisiana Fire & Emergency Training Academy and thus will have no cost associated with tuition. Your department will however be charged for the associated certification test, which will be billed by FETA.
