In partnership with Bossier Fire Dist. 1, S. Bossier Fire Dist. 2, and the Louisiana Fire & Emergency Training Academy, this class will cover Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Ops, Firefighter I, and Firefighter II.
The course is designed to be delivered as a “blended” course, though most of the class will take place in our virtual classroom. Because of this, the attending student must possess a laptop or tablet capable of accessing the internet. A series of online objectives must be met each week. ONE week prior to the start of the course, an access code will be emailed to each registered student. You can use these codes to access the virtual classroom and other course materials/assignments for each module on Google Classroom.

This class will teach the knowledge and ability to identify and respond to hazardous materials incidents, tie appropriate knots, don personal protective equipment including SCBA and firefighter turnout gear, understand the roles of a firefighter I & II in the fire service organization, have a basic understanding of incident command, communicate with the use of radios and telephones during emergency and non-emergency situations, participate as a member of a team while extinguishing vehicle fires, exterior and interior Class A fires, ground cover fires, perform vertical and horizontal ventilation, establish water supply, perform overhaul and salvage operations and use a variety of tools.

STUDENTS or their DEPARTMENTS MUST PURCHASE A TEXTBOOK for this class.
Textbook: (Jones & Bartlett) Fundamentals of Firefighter Skills and Hazardous Materials Response 5th Ed.
Students will receive Practical Skills testing as part of the class, and there will also be certification exams, hosted at the Haughton Fire Dept., at the conclusion of each course. Though Haughton Fire will be hosting a certification exam at the conclusion of this course, it will be the responsibility of the registering department to submit a test request form for their participating members, utilizing ACADIS.

Needed Materials: Computer or mobile device, secure internet connection, web browser, Google account, recording device w/ video and microphone (phone, webcam, tablet, ect…) and required textbook.

Payment: This class is being presented in partnership with the Louisiana Fire & Emergency Training Academy and thus will have no cost associated with tuition. Your department will however be charged for the associated certification test, which will be billed by FETA.
