This appeal is brought to you by the BMC Access & Conservation Trust as part of the Mend Our Mountains and The Climate Project campaigns.Please wear as much ‘fire’ coloured clothing as you can - red, orange, yellow, the more luminous the better! We will look like a wildfire as we walk - a great reason for the wider media to cover our story and help raise awareness of how we can protect our precious Peak District from wildfires.Help us raise as much funding as we can to protect the Eastern Moors area of the Peak District from wildfire by joining our sponsored walk around this beautiful area. Last year was one of the worst on record, devastating vast swathes of peatland and emitting thousands of tonnes of carbon from the area around our beautiful climbing crags and walking paths over Curbar, Froggatt and Burbage edges.You are challenged to get sponsored £200 (or more! don’t hold back!) for this Wildfire Walk, led by Peak District Hill Walking Rep, Alex Davis-Ward and other volunteer leaders, to help us raise a grand total of £50,000 for this high-risk area. We have 10 x £10 vouchers for Alpkit and Outside outdoor shops in Hathersage to hand out to the ten people who have raised the most sponsorship by Sat 30 May 2026. There will also be a grand prize worth £200+ to the person who raises the most in sponsorship for the wildfire appeal by the end of 2026.This 25km walk will set off from Hathersage, towards Higger Tor to Burbage Edge, then south over White Edge, looping back northwards over Curbar Edge then Froggatt Edge, where the scorched earth from the May 2025 wildfire is still clearly visible.There is an option here for hikers to cut the walk short and return to Hathersage (or Edale) by train at Grindleford Station or follow the River Derwent back to Hathersage.You can also sign up as a team and walk this route as a relay, or join us for one of these sections individually.
