Celebrating the friendship link between Hastings and Al-Mawasi:  
 
Hastings residents have forged a deep connection with the community of Al-Mawasi, with Hastings Friends of Al-Mawasi holding regular Zoom calls and WhatsApp communication with residents since 2021, and many campaigns and activities to raise funds for the local Resilience Committee to put towards solar panels, internet connection, a well, women’s workshops, a bakery, food parcels, and educational resources. This is more important than ever since thousands of displaces Gazans have been compelled by Israeli occupying forces to make Al-Mawasi their temporary home. 
 
On 16th July 2025, Hastings Borough Council passed an historic motion to back an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the return of all hostages, an end to all arms sales to Israel, and support for the town’s deep friendship links with the people of Al Mawasi.  

Everyone is welcome to this day of celebration, uniting for peace and justice in Palestine, and celebrating two coastal communities in friendship and solidarity. 

Planned schedule (subject to change!)
- 2pm Hastings Borough Council Offices, Muriel Matters House, TN34 3UY: Reception hosted by the Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Becca Horn. 
- 2.30pm: Family-friendly celebration parade from the Council offices to St Leonards Warrior Square for speeches (bring drums & instruments!)
- 5pm Hastings Mosque, 12 Mercatoria, St Leonards TN38 0EB: Closing reception
