"description": "My love for the arts started way before I came to America in 1986; it all began in the deep countries of Jamaica, where I knew that I loved movement and music. My momcame to the U.S for work and filed for six of us to come to Hartford, CT. Young and excited to be in a new place I found my way to the arts through watching my older sisterand brother get involved with The Artist Collective’s Yabo. A man named Aco Lee Thompson, who later became known as baba (father) Aco to me, was The ArtistsCollectives Master Instructor. Aco taught various forms of dance but the one that called to me the most and where the base of my dance background is rooted in is Africandance and drumming/ African Piragramics. I trained side by side with Aco in all his techniques which led me to travel to Africa with the Legend as a teenager, 14 to beexact. I traveled nine times with Aco and visited Egypt to see the Great Pyramids, traveled the Nile river, studied the ancient kemetic spiritual history, and visited the StoneQuarries. I also visited Mexico to study the ancient Mayans culture; there was so much history to absorb through the years that prepared me well beyond the dance rooms andstages. In 2006 I had to step away from my art and love of dance to be a full time husband and dad which led me to 17 years of Truck Driving. Although it provided for thefamily it never filled the void that dance once did. As life has its twists and turns I was asked for a divorce and I decided to retire from trucking. As this decision was pending Iconnected back with a very special person who helped me use dance as a way to heal from my divorce and reconnect back to the heart of my community. I started training withFriendZWorldMusic and Island Reflections Dance Theatre company (now inc.) which began my journey back to performing and back to life. Now I am providing moreopportunities for youth and adults through the work I do through dance and I feel whole."
