Her creative works are understated and whimsical; she asks the audience to lean in and pay attention to the subtle undercurrents of drama, quirk, defiance, and silliness. His favorite part of teaching is getting to share the joy of movement and the positive impact it has on his students’ life.Sonia Plumb is native Vermonter. As Artistic Director of Sonia Plumb Dance she has thrice received the Connecticut Office of the Arts Fellowship for Artistic Excellence. Her work has been performed throughout the Northeast and abroad. Many integrate objects, place and sensorial stuff. His process involves wide-ranging research and both serious and silly play. Michael’s past works have included dances choreographed to oral histories of immigration, a pageant set in an apple orchard, and a dance iteration of Foucault’s Corps Utopique. Prior to The Institute for Folding, he created a dance project centered on grain—how it is sown, gathered, cared, hoarded and lost. He is honored to sit (and move) on the board of advisors of The Field Center in Rockingham, VT, and has served on the board of the Society of Dance History Scholars (now Dance Studies Association). He works daily as the Director of External Affairs at the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth. Michael lives with his family in the fields of Putney, VT.Elizabeth Kurylo is a dancer and choreographer based in Vermont. "Making dance has been a passion of mine for many years. My choreographies are built in close collaboration with the dancers. For me dancers are not mere instruments. they are my inspiration, my motivation, and they are the intrinsic energy of a new piece.
