Program Overview
Civil War chaplains served as far more than regimental staff—they were spiritual leaders, counselors, companions, and often courageous figures who shared the hardships of army life. Many risked their safety out of devotion to God, their regiments, and the moral welfare of the men they served.
This presentation introduces visitors to the history of Civil War chaplaincy and highlights several moving stories of chaplains at Gettysburg, including accounts never before published. These narratives offer a poignant look at faith, sacrifice, and the lived experience of soldiers before, during, and after battle.
