Yuletide Hike Through History

Enjoy hiking in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and town during the annual Olde Tyme Christmas Festival. We will walk along the Shenandoah on Virginius Island before climbing a little piece of the Appalachian Trail on the flank of Camp Hill. Expect wintertime expansive and rocky views and possibly some wildlife. We’ll also view some history along the way: ruins of mills that once bustled along the Shenandoah, Jefferson Rock and Robert Harper’s house. Ending the walk in the town business district, you can enjoy some of the special programs of Harpers Ferry and Bolivar's annual festival.

Led by Certified Park Guide Chris Craig, a regular hike leader for the Sierra Club, this 2.5-mile hike is rated MODERATE to STRENUOUS. The route includes earthen and rocky trails, some flat, others with short steep climbs and challenging footing. Some may find hiking poles or walking sticks to be helpful. Participants should meet at the Benches on the Green across from the Park Bookshop. Don’t forget to bring some water!
