# Event Details - **Event Name**: Save Our Streams Macroinvertebrate Field Training with the Izaak Walton League - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 31 May, 2025 at 10:00 am – Sat, 31 May, 2025 at 12:00 pm - **Event Description**: Join the Save our Streams (SOS) staff of the Izaak Walton League and Friends of Yellow River State Forest for a volunteer Macroinvertebrate Field Training training, May 31st, 10am-12pm at Yellow River State Forest, Harpers Ferry. PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. The Save Our Streams field training offers hands-on experience in water quality monitoring, including biological, chemical, and physical stream assessments. Participants also learn to assess stream habitat and watershed land uses. You'll leave your field training fully equipped to assess water quality. The Izaak Walton League’s Save Our Streams program is the only nationwide program training volunteers to protect waterways from pollution and bring information about water quality to their communities. Today, trained volunteer stream monitors across the country are uncovering pollution problems and urging their local leaders to take action on water quality. The work of these volunteers also creates a critical record of water quality over time, making it possible to quickly identify pollution problems that may develop in the future. Anybody can get trained as a volunteer stream monitor. PRIOR to the field session, you will need to complete the online portion of the training where you will learn about water quality issues and macroinvertebrates. The online portion will equip you with the knowledge you need to make the most of your field training. Once you have passed the exam you will be sent your macro ID certificate and be ready to attend the field session where you will learn the collection protocol and practice identifying macroinvertebrates in person! Dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes that can get wet! (Rain boots, waders, or even old tennis shoes). The training will occur in rain or shine. Please plan to bring water, sunscreen, and anything else you need to feel comfortable for this outdoor training.
