- **Event Description**: Join Joe Landis, founder and former CEO of Peaceful Living, on November 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Mennonite Heritage Center as he shares about disability history, faith, and the history of Peaceful Living. The local organization, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, “help[s] people with intellectual and developmental disabilities discover and realize their unique potential, and become valued members of the community.”

As Joe describes his presentation: “This is the story about the vision and persistence of one woman who was not afraid to ask: ‘Where is the church in all this?’ How could individuals with disabilities be cared for with generous support from her faith community? It’s a story of how her powerful love for her son inspired others to join her in this project. Because she followed her heart, she spoke to the hearts of others. She, with the help of community, built it, and people came. This story of advocacy is needed now more than ever.”

Joe will use the story described above and others to tell how local Mennonite churches helped develop services for the disabled community that reflected their Anabaptist theology and commitments. After his sharing there will be time for questions and to hear from current leaders of Peaceful Living.

This is a free, in-person event. No registration is required.
