- **Event Description**: Telephones and internet are out!  That’s common in our world when we need instant communication, but there are other ways to make contact with family and friends with day to day activities or during an emergency situation.  

On February 4, 2025, the Harlan County Extension Service will host a Personal Radio Services program.  The event will be held at the Harlan County Extension Depot (110 River Street, Harlan,, KY) from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.  

We will have information and radios set up that involve Amateur (Ham) Radio, Family Radio Services, General Mobile Radio Services (GMRS), Citizens Band, and others.  We’ll also have radio operators on hand to discuss each of the radios available.  Some of these services are free to use and others require a license, we’ll explain all of that.  For the licensed services, Amateur Radio and GMRS, we’ll have detailed information on how to achieve your license and begin talking on the radio as a hobby or within an emergency situation.
