- **Event Name**: Hancock Community Tree Planting
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 18 Apr, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sat, 18 Apr, 2026 at 12:30 pm
- **Event Description**: This spring, be a part of a community effort to plant more native trees in Hancock!About this EventCome join Wild Potomac on Saturday April 18th to learn about the native trees that have evolved to live in this place, and their value to humans and local ecosystems. Native trees provide great benefit to the ecosystems they’re a part of, and we can play a positive role in our ecosystems by planting these types of trees.Together, we will be planting 15-20 trees along the banks of Little Tonoloway Creek in Widmeyer Park. We’ll have yellowbud hickory trees, wild cherries, and native shrubs like ninebark.Participants will be taught basic skills for how to plant trees well and take care of them once they go into the ground. This is a great opportunity to get familiar with trees and shrubs that people can actually eat from once they grow to full size! Planting these natives is an investment into a future where people are more connected to nature and in reciprocal relationship with the trees around us.All ages are welcome and you don’t need any previous experience planting trees to join. Instructions, tools and snacks will be provided - you will even get to sample cornbread made from the acorns of local native trees!__________ABOUT WILD POTOMAC'S CONNECTING WITH LOCAL TREES EVENT SERIESThis is the first of four events Wild Potomac is organizing this year in Cumberland - all dedicated to learning about, planting, caring for, and harvesting food from native trees and shrubs! We begin with planting trees. Then throughout the year we will have more events where we learn about how to identify, care for, and harvest from them, as well as make delicious food from what they produce. Join these events to get more connected to your local ecosystem and share widely with anyone who may want to come, of any age! All events are free and will have snacks and tools provided. Stay tuned for the next events on Facebook here and Eventbrite. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events2/banners/58eb8290-1a19-11f1-9e27-61f09d4cb8ea-rimg-w1110-h740-dce0eaf6-gmir.jpg
