Our guest lead instructor for Supercamps 2025 is Maurice Thibault CAN/USA.
Maurice will be supported by our Wongaburra instructor team of Christine and Justin Corbidge. This will be Maurice's third visit to Wongaburra, we are very excited he will be joining us again this year! His last visit was in 2019 (pre-covid)
Some information about Maurice...written by his wife Susan.
'Maurice spent a big part of his life learning Natural Horsemanship from many renowned horsemen; such as Ray Hunt, Pat Parelli, Martin Black, Doug Jordan, and Peter Campbell. Pat Parelli is by far the most influential of them all.
Maurice’s interest with horses and cattle and his desire to be the best horseman he can is a lifelong affair. As a young man he travelled from his home, the French speaking province of Quebec in eastern Canada to the English speaking province of British Columbia in the west, this 3500 mile journey is where he learned to speak English and learned how to work cattle horseback. Maurice’s greatest memories were the opportunities to chase cattle horseback in some of the most remote and rough countryside of British Columbia. He also worked cattle in the state of Louisiana, Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Colorado, those southern cattle are some of the toughest cattle in the country.
Maurice has a vast experience with livestock, he uses a no nonsense approach and his love for horses is well known to all his students .He is an instructor that truly applies the concepts of natural horsemanship. His kindness with horses and his patience allow him to see what the horses need. One of Maurice’s quotes is “ I like to leave the frou-frou stuff out for others to use”. Great fun guy to be around!'
Chris' input about her colleague Maurice...
"I first met Maurice when we were both senior instructors in the Parelli Professional's program, whilst in Colorado for professional training with Pat Parelli. Maurice spent extra time helping me (a cowhand greenhorn) understand the intricacies of moving cattle, cutting out individuals without stressing them, and generally discovering why this practical activity is SO addictive!
I recognised a 'like mind' straight away, someone who has a heartfelt empathy for the horse, and also the students in our care, but who also has a very no fuss, practical approach and a grounded view of horsemanship as a whole.
He, like me, puts the relationship of horse and human first in all horse related endeavours - in the recreational, competitive and professional spaces. I knew I could add him to my list of trusted colleagues for whom I would be eagerly willing to hand over the care of our own customer base here in Australia, for our annual collaborative Supercamp events. Like all the invited lead instructors we welcome here, he has a wealth of experience, great communication skills, cheerful and enthusiastic personality all whilst keeping the uncomfortable process of learning new things, or new ways to do familiar things fun as well as achievable for each individual.
I am looking forward to working with Maurice again this year, and especially to sharing notes on our chosen vocation, one we have both been invested in for many decades, and the love we share for horses and the humans that love them. The energy created at these Supercamps, working with truly collaborative professionals is a gift I enjoy offering our own students, but it is also the gift I give myself."
