What do hue, kumara, inanga, and tuna have in common? They are all part of te taiao, and all subjects close to the heart of Waikato textile artist Pepi-Joy Gilgen.

Pepi-Joy's work is shaped by the way her tamariki see the natural world, and her distinctive soft sculptures find beauty in the everyday creatures and plants of Aotearoa. 

This Matariki, she is bringing that same warmth and creativity into our whare for an all-ages eel-making workshop.

Using simple textile techniques, you will create your own soft-sculpture tuna to take home. This is an approachable, relaxed, and genuinely fun making experience for everyone. No sewing experience required, just a willingness to get creative.
