Alyssa Giammaria: Farewell Concert

Alyssa Giammaria: Farewell Concert
Sunday, July 23. Doors 6:30; Show 7:00pm.
$20 / $15 students.

Alyssa Giammaria will be moving to New York City for school in the fall, and is putting on one last show for her friends and family as a chance to gather with everyone before leaving her hometown. She will be joined by Adrean Farrugia (piano), Pat Collins (Bass), Adam Inrig (Drums), as well as Aoife-Louise Doyle and Leah Korkowski on back up vocals.
The statement above is Alyssa’s plain (and true) statement about her concert. One of her Mohawk music teachers, Sophia Perlman (jazz-singer, songwriter, etc) flipped at the humility of her version, polled Alyssa’s fellow student’s for comments, and added her own. If you read on those comments are below but here's the gist: “Alyssa Giammaria (‘the humble prodigy’) is a beautiful soul with outstanding talent.” “I can’t wait to see what New York does for her, and what she does for New York.” “a willingness to not only foster her already impressive understanding of her craft but to also continually seek out new challenges and opportunities…” “I’ll miss her creative mind and her impeccable musicianship and integrity.” See more below…

I first met Alyssa as a fairly new teacher at Mohawk College – as in I was new-ish at teaching college and new-ish to Mohawk, and new-ish to Hamilton all at the same time.
Alyssa belonged to a really wonderful year of students who all taught me so much about how to teach, and how to listen and how to help people on their journey. To be honest, I never felt like Alyssa needed much help. Which made the fact that she came in every week, determined, and with a list of a thousand questions all the more wonderful.
I’ll miss her creative mind and her impeccable musicianship and integrity. But more than that, I’m going to miss my weekly reminder of how once you dedicate yourself to being a student of music, it never really stops. She has inspired to me to throw open new doors in my own creative practice, as she set an example by fearlessly taking on whatever came next. There is no doubt in my mind that this next adventure will be the same. Sophia Perlman, teacher, jazz-singer, singer, songwriter and more…

“Alyssa is an outstanding young vocalist for whom I see nothing nothing but a bright, musical future. It was an absolute pleasure having her in our program at Mohawk College, and we’re going to miss her! A consumate musician who tackled all music situations with sincerity and soul!” Pat Collins, teacher, bass player, etc..

Alyssa Giammaria (‘the humble prodigy’) is a beautiful soul with outstanding talent, who has made going to college with an absolute blessing. As a classmate, I listened intently because I knew I was going to learn something, and as a colleague, we fit like glue, like our voices were from the same instrument – because her ear will follow you with ease, and yours will follow her intently. Forever a mentor, forever a colleague, forever a best friend, she will dearly missed by her Hamiltonians, and dearly loved by the lucky New Yorkers that get ot greet her into their world’ – Aiofe- Louise Doyle, Singer, songwriter, musician, -New Alumnus and former classmate at Mohawk College, band mate.

“A gifted and multi-talented artist, Alyssa combines a passionate but measured approach to the arts with an open mind and open heart. Her willingness to not only foster her already impressive understanding of her craft but to also continually seek out new challenges and opportunities makes for a musical and indeed personal journey you will not want to miss out on.” Chris Power, singer, writer, composer/arranger & ….?. New alumnus and former classmate at Mohawk College. Collaborator,

“Alyssa is an outstanding musician, inspiring classmate, a joy to work with and most importantly a beautiful friend. I can’t wait to see what New York does for her, and what she does for New York” – Stephanie Sloss – Singer, Musician, curator and emerging arts leader. New alumnus and former classmate and collaborator at Mohawk College.

“It was definitely inspiring and fun. Seeing someone come into the program and grow into such a talented singer in her time here. Definitely has me excited to see what the next three years brings for her.” Nige Stewart, drummer, bandleader, collaborator, New alumnus and former classmate at Mohawk College.

“Alyssa is truly inspiring as a singer and as a person. She brings a genuine heartfelt energy to every performance she’s a part of, not to mention her technical ability is mesmerizing! New York will be lucky to have her” – Leah Korokowski – singer, songwriter, musician– New Alumnus, collaborator, and former classmate at Mohawk College

“There was One Voice I heard in 1st year that for me was already ‘Next to Perfect’ & in 2nd year I heard her hands touch a piano for the first time, it was “Phenomenal” & by third year I am not only proud to see her living her dreams but also fully open to experimenting to reach untapped potential the world has yet to see. On Graduation Day during the “Valedictorian Speech” there were only two names I personally felt truly deserved (& I was definitely not one of them)… Alyssa Giammaria. “By the time you get to New York, you’ll be living like a Queen” – Zakk Benn, Bassist, Bandleader, New Alumnus, and former classmate at Mohawk College.

“Alyssa would do the same for us, is an amazing musician and is lovely to be around.” – Ian Brown –Pianist, composer New Alumnus, and former classmate at Mohawk College

“The time I spent working with Alyssa, was a very refreshing experience. It’s always a pleasure to work with someone that’s passionate about what theyre learning. I found Alyssa to be a very diligent young woman, always came in on time prepared with her assignments and ready to work. Alyssa always worked hard on making sure that she had it all down no mater how much time it took. She never gave up and had excellent results. I see great things in Alyssa’s future because of this. Keep up the amazing work Alyssa!” – Sherie Marshall – Singer, Musician, Educator, former instructor at Mohawk College.
