Local chef Jonny Blonde will be serving up tasty treats.The winter solstice, December 21st, is the shortest day and the longest night of our year. This time is celebrated for many reasons, but we are celebrating the solstice because of the bees.The significance of the solstice for honeybees is that's the first day of the year that the queen may become more active again in their colony. The bees use the sun as a calendar. When the days start getting longer after the solstice, the bees start preparing for the coming season!Several pollinator species are at risk of extinction in Canada. Wildlife Preservation Canada (WPC)’s pollinator initiative is a nationwide multi-species recovery effort that aims to save these important insects from extinction. Proceeds of the event will go to Wildlife Preservation Canada's bumble bee breeding program.No physical tickets will be sent out. You will receive an email before the event with detailed instructions on how to get to the event and where to check in. We plan to make this event as safe and accessible as possible. Masks will be provided and are encouraged.
