Eine Bandbio nannte The Tubs aus Cardiff mal augenzwinkernd eine «Celtic Jangle Boyband». Das lag nicht so sehr daran, dass ihre Musik an Boybands der 90er oder Nullerjahre erinnert, mit denen dieses Wort so oft assoziiert wird, sondern weil ihr Debütalbum «Dead Meat» einen geradezu freudigen, juvenilen Spirit hatte und das Coveralbum so etwas wie ein Indie-Boyband-Traum-Shot war. Songs wie «Wretched Lie», «Dead Meat» oder «I Don’t Know How It Works» waren dann ein einziger, wundervoller Indie-Gitarrenmelodie-Segen, den man durchaus mit dem Wort «jangle» bezeichnen könnte. In Zeiten, in denen man in Wales und in Irland vor allem auf dunklen Post-Punk setzte, waren The Tubs ein sehr erfreulicher Gegenpol. Das fanden auch geschmackssichere Medien wie Pitchfork und der Guardian – und auch Iggy Pop spielte The Tubs in seiner Radiosendung mit schwärmenden Worten.
Im Dezember schaffen es The Tubs nun endlich die neuen Songs in Deutschland live vorzustellen. Wer weiß, vielleicht haben The Tubs sogar neues Material dabei. Kürzlich überraschten sie ihre Fans schon mit dem tollen Metallica-Cover «Fade To Black», da könnte also noch was kommen.
