Das MS STUBNITZ stellt ein weitgehend original erhaltenes Fahrzeug der Hochseefischerei der ehemaligen DDR dar, obwohl für die heutige Nutzung entscheidende Bereiche des Schiffes baulich verändert werden mussten. Weitestgehend original erhalten sind die elektromechanische Maschinenanlage und ihre Gleichstromtechnik, die Kommandobrücke mit Funk- und Kartenraum, die Wohn- und Sozialbereiche wie Kammern, Kombüse, O-Messe, sowie das bordeigene Hospital. Das ehemalige Verarbeitungsdeck und die ehemaligen Kühlladeräume sind trotz der Demontage der Verarbeitungsanlagen als Räume weitgehend im Originalzustand erhalten. Zusätzlich spiegelt der äußere Eindruck des Schiffes unverändert den Zustand des letzten Zeitraumes des Fischereieinsatzes wieder.

Seit 1992 wurde das Schiff zu einer mobilen Plattform für Musik, kulturelle Produktion, Dokumentation und Kommunikation umgestaltet. Drei ehemalige Laderäume werden regelmäßig als Veranstaltungsräume für Live-Musik, Ausstellungen, Performances und Installationen genutzt.
