Where & How: Walk or Bike to school along Winthrop Street if you live in downtown Hallowell OR join the Group Walk!

To join the Group Walk: Free street parking permission has been granted from every neighbor on Mayflower Road in Hallowell, and a timed meetup for a group walk to begin (7:30am). The distance is less than 1 km / 0.6 mile, it is on roads that see very little traffic, and we have a volunteer "crossing guard" for the only street crossing (where Hillcrest intersects Central St). The walk continues through a beautiful patch of woods and passes the HDES outdoor classrooms before emptying out onto the field behind the school / nearest to the Kindergarten playground (sorry, bikes and other wheels will be difficult on the trail). For anyone coming from Farmingdale or Hallowell, please park a vehicle on Mayflower Road at 7:30am and either walk with your child(ren) or let other parents walk with them as part of the group.

Group Photo! All participants who wish to be in it, please meet at 8:00am in front of the bike rack near the drop off loop for a quick group photo that can be shared publicly.

For HDES families who wish to continue walking or biking to school, you can build this same route into your daily routine. We apologize that the trail through the woods cannot accommodate people of all physical abilities, and we appreciate the neighbors whose land the trail goes through for letting residents and walkers use it daily.
