It is the day for the annual Jane’s Walk, celebrating local activism and involvement. Jane’s Walk in Hallowell will meet in City Cemetery at 10:00 AM starting at the Civil War Monument. 

Sam Webber, then the City Historian, began leading walks through the cemetery as a way of introducing the living to some of the town’s most notable former citizens. This year the focus will be on the oldest sections of the cemetery and focus on the grave of James Matthews who escaped slavery in South Carolina and ended up in Hallowell where he lived the rest of his life.
