Tuesday Night Talks: The Future Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre: Story, Healing, and Community - Mercedes Peters, Sharing Our Stories Coordinator, MDCC
Mercedes is our special speaker who will present the vision and progress of Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre, a $50M capital project. Learn how MDCC will protect 13,000-year-old ancestral sites, return Mi’kmaw belongings from major institutions, and create a world-class centre for story, healing, and community.
Attendees will learn about the Centre’s mandate, programs, and design — and how it will become a gathering space for Mi’kmaw people and a destination for over 60,000 visitors annually.
The Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre will be a meaningful and dynamic centre for Mi’kmaw people, and for visitors from across Nova Scotia, Canada and the world. Currently in the planning stages, the Centre will be built in Debert, Nova Scotia—a place where our ancestors lived more than 11,000 years ago, and a place where they still dwell today.
