- **Event Description**: Join Halifax Civic Trust for an afternoon stroll around one of Halifax's most distinctive neighbourhoods with our guide Anne Kirker.About this EventSkirting the Moor explores the development of Savile Park during the second half of the nineteenth century, when what had previously been open moorland and common land began to attract Halifax's growing industrial and professional elite. Today it remains one of the town's most distinctive and admired residential areas.Starting at 2.30pm outside St Jude's Church, this guided walk takes us around Skircoat Moor and the surrounding streets, uncovering the stories behind some of the area's notable houses and the people who lived in them. Along the way we'll discover local industrialists, entrepreneurs and other influential Halifax figures who helped shape the town's history.Our route includes a walk along the elegant Albert Promenade, with fine views across the valley towards Norland. The walk includes a visit to the site of Halifax Civic Trust's Blue Plaque commemorating Laura Annie Willson MBE, the Halifax-born suffragette, engineer and house builder whose achievements made her one of the town's most remarkable women.The walk is expected to last approximately 120 minutes and is mainly on paved surfaces with gentle gradients. If you are planning to come on the walk, why not make an afternoon and evening of it and book theatre tickets too? Our walk takes place on the Saturday.
